Myanmar declares week-long national mourning over deadly earthquake
In recognition of and sympathy for the damage and loss of lives caused by the earthquake, the period from March 31 to April 6 has been declared as national mourning days. During this time, the national flag will be flown at half-mast.
Myanmar's State Administration Council on March 31 announced a week-long mourning period following the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28.

In recognition of and sympathy for the damage and loss of lives caused by the earthquake, the period from March 31 to April 6 has been declared as national mourning days. During this time, the national flag will be flown at half-mast.
Rescue efforts are still being carried out urgently, although the "72 golden hour" mark passed. Three days after the earthquake, rescue teams from countries are rushing to the worst-affected localities such as Mandalay city, the capital of Naypyidaw, and Sagaing city to race with time to search for victims with signs of survival.
According to Myanmar's State Administration Council, by the end of March 30, about 1,700 people died, 3,400 were injured, and 300 remained missing in the massive earthquake.
The Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) is preparing to deploy a force to Myanmar to assist with its earthquake recovery efforts, according to the VPA General Staff at a conference on March 29.
To date, there have been no Vietnamese nationals reported to be affected by the earthquake originating in Myanmar, according to preliminary reports from Vietnam’s representative bodies in Myanmar and Thailand.
BAC GIANG – The Relief Mobilization Committee in Bac Giang province has just held a meeting to review and estimate the allocation of the second phase of support from donated funding and materials to overcome the consequences caused by storm No. 3 as well as finalize a number of other important contents under the responsibility of the Provincial Relief Mobilization Committee.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on September 20 announced that it has allocated 2 million USD to support Vietnam in carrying out efforts to respond to Typhoon Yagi, which struck the country on September 7 and caused widespread devastation with more than 290 deaths and 237,000 homes damaged, and some 3 million people affected.
Vietnamese people in Japan and Canada have provided support to people at home who were affected by Typhoon Yagi.
A special TV programme was held by Vietnam Television (VTV) in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 15 to show support for people in the areas hit by super Typhoon Yagi and its accompanying flooding and landslides.
People nationwide as well as overseas Vietnamese (OV) have continue joining hands in supporting recovery efforts by residents in the northern areas hit by Typhoon Yagi.
