Bac Giang applies advanced processes to improve OCOP product quality
BAC GIANG – The application of international and national quality standards such as ISO, HACCP, GMP, VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards has significantly improved the quality of agricultural products and ensured food safety in Bac Giang province. Recognizing this importance, many enterprises and cooperatives in the province have invested in modern technologies and equipment, applying advanced processes in production and processing to enhance competitiveness and increase product value
In Chu township, Global Food JSC has invested over 2 billion VND (76,768 USD) in international-standard modified atmosphere packaging technology, which helps extend product shelf life and maintain freshness.

As a result, the company now has several OCOP (One Commune Once Product) items such as frozen lychee, lychee juice, canned fruit juice, canned sweet corn, soybeans, and okra exported to high-end markets like Japan, Europe, and Australia.
Notably, many of the company’s OCOP products meet international quality standards including ISO, HACCP, and BRC from the UK and the US.
In 2019, Binh Minh Organic Agricultural Cooperative in Nam Dong village, Danh Thang commune, Hiep Hoa district invested in building a controlled livestock and poultry slaughtering and processing facility.
All stages—from slaughtering to packaging—are carried out in cold rooms with vacuum packaging to ensure food safety. To source quality raw materials, the cooperative partners with farms that raise pigs organically.
Their processed products have all achieved OCOP certification (3 stars for pork; 4 stars for pork rolls, sausages, and ham), with verified quality and traceable origins.
These products are supplied not only within the province but also to clean food stores, supermarkets, restaurants, and kitchens in major cities.
For Hien Phuoc Chu Rice Noodle Production, Trading, and Consumption Cooperative (Chu township), which supplies about 60 tonnes of noodles to the market each month, applying advanced production processes is key to improving quality, productivity, and product value.
Since 2022, with a government support of 100 million VND, the cooperative has invested over 3 billion VND in steam-based noodle sheeting machines and electric drying systems, creating a fully closed-loop production line.
Its products have been recognised as 3- and 4-star OCOP products and are now exported to various international markets.
Nguyen Van Luy, head of the Division of Cooperative Economy and Rural Development under the Department of Agriculture and Environment, stated that Bac Giang has established many large-scale production areas certified to VietGAP standards (over 16,600 ha), lychee production areas certified to GlobalGAP standards (164 ha), organic lychee areas (10 ha), GlobalGAP-certified longan areas (10 ha), and other crops like custard apples, oranges, pomelos, tea, and vegetables also meeting VietGAP standards.
These are favourable conditions for developing and improving OCOP product quality.
As of the end of May this year, the province had 444 OCOP products rated 3 stars or higher, including 1 five-star, 21 four-star, and 422 three-star products.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, OCOP products have shown significant improvements in quality and design, with over 60% of producers reporting an average annual revenue increase of more than 15%.
Many OCOP products have adopted advanced production and processing technologies and equipment such as ISO, HACCP, BRC, FBA, VietGAP, and GlobalGAP, meeting large-scale production requirements and successfully exporting to markets with strict quality standards.
