Bac Ninh enters bustling orange, pomelo season
BAC NINH- These days, every corner of the hill gardens in the communes and wards of Chu, Luc Ngan and Nam Duong are covered with golden colour of orange and pomelo in harvest season. Many households are quickly cleaning and decorating the rest and dining stops to receive visitors coming to experience the ripe-fruit season festival. The countryside becomes more bustling than usual.
In the province’s “fruit capital” (belonging to former Chu township and Luc Ngan district), the farmers started harvesting. A range of orange and pomelo stalls appear along the national highway 31 crossing Phuong Son, Chu wards and Luc Ngan commune.

Orchard owners are confident in a bumper orange and pomelo crop although it is early in the season.
“My family sells from 2 to 4 quintals of green-skin pomelo each day at a price ranging from 40,000 to 45,000 VND (1.5-1.7 USD) per kilo (depending on the order quantity), equal to the early season last year”, Nguyen Thi Luat in Xe Cu residential group, Chu ward happily shared.
Luat added, her family is expected to harvest around 300 tonnes of citrus fruits from the total area of 10 hectares this year (30 tonnes more than 2024) with an estimated revenue of 12 billion VND (454,942 USD), earning a profit of billions of VND.
Recently, over 12 hectares of yellow-flesh orange of Bui Huu Chinh’s family in Dong Quyt village, Nam Duong commune started yielding harvest, sold at 25,000 VND (0.9 USD) per kilo, 5,000 VND higher than last year. Traders come to buy products right at the gardens.
Chinh is one of the orchard owners having the largest orange growing area in Nam Duong with 12 hectares. His family is expecting to harvest more than 300 tonnes of orange this crop.
As an experienced farmer cultivating citrus plants, Chinh believed gardeners will earn higher profits than previous years because they do not suffer from consumption pressure in this leap year when the products are sold gradually throughout the season.
According to the Plant Protection Sub-department of Bac Ninh province, the province has over 8,100 hectares of citrus plants (including 5,400 hectares of pomelo and the remaining area for orange and tangerine).
Of which, more than 5,000 hectares of citrus cultivation area belong to the communes and wards of former Luc Ngan district and Chu township, with the output accounting for over 80 percent of the entire province.
The total orange productivity of the province is estimated at 28,320 tonnes (about 40 tonnes of orange have been harvested as of November 10, sold at a price ranging from 20,000 to 25,000 VND (0.7 to 0.9 USD) per kilo).
The pomelo output is expected to reach over 48,660 tonnes, equivalent to 118.1 percent compared to the same period. Around 650 tonnes have been harvested so far. Orange and pomelo also enjoy good prices like the same period last year.
According to Dang Van Tang, Director of the Plant Protection Sub-department, this agency has sent experts to the localities to guide cultivation techniques, communicate and encourage farmers to produce following VietGap and organic standards as well as digitalizing the planting areas for proper management to gain high productivity and quality of citrus plants.

Besides, they warn the households to use pesticides with clear origin and apply organic fertilizers to produce qualified products meeting increasing market demands, aiming to export.
In line with active care and harvest of early ripening orange and pomelo, many cooperatives, gardeners and travel companies in Chu and Phuong Son wards, Nam Duong, Luc Ngan and Luc Son communes are repairing and upgrading the service infrastructure, cleaning gardens and building tours to welcome tourists to experience.
In order to boost consumption of orange and pomelo as well as promote agricultural products and specialties of Bac Ninh province, the provincial People’s Committee issued the plan on organizing “Bac Ninh 2025 Fruit Festival” gathering 150 booths. The festival is scheduled to take place during 5 days and end on 10 December 2025.
With great efforts of the people and support of local agencies and units in consumption promotion, Bac Ninh’s “fruit capital” is expected to enjoy another bumper orange and pomelo season.
