Bac Ninh welcomes first cultural train passengers from Hanoi
BAC NINH - The northern province of Bac Ninh on August 31 welcomed the first group of nearly 200 passengers aboard the cultural tourism train “Hanoi 5 Cửa Ô – The Hanoi Train,” marking the start of a new heritage journey linking the capital with the Kinh Bac region.

The group included People’s Artist Xuan Bac, head of the Department of Performing Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with central and local media representatives and tour operators.

Launched earlier this month, the route connects Hanoi with Bac Ninh, home to centuries-old cultural traditions, including quan ho folk songs and craft villages, seven of which are recognized by UNESCO.

From Tu Son, passengers traveled by electric bus to Do Temple, a national heritage site dedicated to the kings of the Ly dynasty, where they joined incense-offering rituals and listened to historical accounts.

Visitors also took part in cultural activities such as Quan ho singing performances on boats, Dong Ho folk painting, calligraphy and shopping for local OCOP-certified products.

“The province is leveraging its rich heritage to develop cultural tourism under the brand ‘Land of Kinh Bac heritage,’” Mai Son said, adding that the new train would help promote Bac Ninh’s cultural identity and tourism services as it seeks recognition as a centrally governed city.

Xuan Bac said he was impressed by Bac Ninh’s cultural space, calling the train “a creative way to bring heritage closer to the public.”

Officials said the service not only offered a new travel product but also strengthened links between Hanoi, Bac Ninh and neighboring provinces. Plans are under way to expand the route and build sustainable heritage tourism.
