The Center for Agrarian Systems Research and Development under the Field Crops Research Institute has collaborated with Bac Giang Department of Science and Technology and the people’s committee of Luc Ngan district to implement the project “Developing “Luc Ngan” GI for orange products of Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang province” since 2021.

After 3 years, 14 important contents under the project have been completed including site survey, quality evaluation, defining geographical areas (39 communes and towns), finalizing technical production procedures, developing GI management software and designing brand identities.

The Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam issued the Decision No 252/QD-SHTT dated 2 April 2025 to grant “Luc Ngan” GI certificates to 3 typical products including yellow-flesh orange, sweet orange and V2 orange.

The GI protection of Luc Ngan oranges marks a significant milestone in Bac Giang province’s agricultural branding strategy, opening up promising prospects for sustainable development of the orange industry and gradually helping the products go farther in domestic and international markets.

The representative of Bac Giang DOST gave the “Luc Ngan” GI registration certificate to the district people’s committee.

Besides, 6 outstanding organisations and individuals cultivating and trading orange products were granted GI use right certificates by the people’s committee of Luc Ngan district.

Fruitful orange and pomelo gardens in Luc Ngan

BAC GIANG - Due to the impact of storm No. 3 and floods, this year, the output of oranges and pomelos in Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang province) decreased sharply (about 50% compared to the same period in 2023). However, there are some gardens laden with fruits, bringing in income of billions of VND.
