The Tam Chuc Scenic Complex, located in Tam Chuc Ward, Ninh Binh Province, features a tropical humid limestone karst landscape of outstanding geological significance, similar to that of Trang An.

Co Le Pagoda, also known as Than Quang Temple, is located in Co Le Commune, Ninh Binh Province.

Formed over more than five million years ago, the complex boasts pristine and splendid landscapes with remarkable aesthetic values, a blend of towering karst mountains surrounded by cliffs, covered by forest canopy, depressions, caves, and underground streams.

The complex also represents ecological and biological processes and is home to a population of white-cheeked crested gibbons, one of the rarest primates in the world with over 400 individuals.

Archaeological research indicates Tam Chuc was inhabited by ancient Vietnamese people influenced by the Hoa Binh culture from 20,000 to 30,000 years ago.

This area also preserves traces of the formation and development of Buddhism, especially associated with Zen Master Nguyen Minh Khong during the Ly dynasty and the Buddhist Emperor Tran Nhan Tong.

Meanwhile, Co Le Pagoda, also known as Than Quang Temple, is located in Co Le Commune, Ninh Binh Province. It was founded during the Ly dynasty (12th century), linked to the merits of Zen Master Nguyen Minh Khong. However, the current structure was built by Venerable Pham Quang Tuyen in the early 20th century.

The pagoda stands out with its unique architectural artistry, harmoniously combining traditional Eastern architecture with Western Gothic style, reflecting a fusion between Buddhism and Christianity.

The Co Le Pagoda festival is held annually from September 13 to 16 on the lunar calendar to commemorate the birthday of Zen Master Nguyen Minh Khong.

The State’s recognition of these two relics not only confirms their outstanding cultural, historical, and architectural values but also opens up many opportunities for preserving and promoting heritage values and developing sustainable tourism in Ninh Binh Province.

With these two newly-listed relics, Ninh Binh Province now has a total of 10 special national relics.

The Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac Complex is the 9th world heritage of Vietnam and the second inter-provincial world heritage, after Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago in Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city.

 

Preservation and promotion of traditional craft village heritage

According to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, there are more than 5,400 craft villages nationwide, of which the Red River Delta region alone has about 1,500 villages, with around 300 recognised as traditional craft villages.

 

Bac Ninh promotes value of Truc Lam Buddhist space — World Cultural Heritage

The Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son – Kiep Bac Relics and Landscape Complex in Bac Ninh Province, Quang Ninh Province, and Hai Phong City has been recognised as a World Cultural Heritage. Within which, the Tay Yen Tu Buddhist cultural space, a unique relic and landscape complex, is an important part of this heritage.

 

Pride of World Cultural Heritage

BAC NINH – The Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac historical and scenic complex has been officially recognised by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site. This is Vietnam’s ninth World Heritage site and the country’s second inter-provincial heritage to be recognised. Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, Bo Da Pagoda, and the Tay Yen Tu spiritual and ecological tourism area in Bac Ninh province are key destinations within the complex.

Soong co and Cheo recognised national intangible cultural heritages

BAC NINH- The 2 folk art performances of Bac Ninh province including soong co of San Diu ethnic people and cheo singing have been recognised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as national intangible cultural heritages. This is a big pride for Bac Ninh people, which affirms values of the special folk arts in the northern province of Bac Ninh.

BAC NINH - The Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac relic and scenic complex has officially been inscribed on UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List, marking Vietnam’s ninth world heritage site. Two of the 12 component sites recognised within the heritage complex are located in Bac Ninh province: Vinh Nghiem Pagoda and Bo Da Pagoda.
