At a farming scale from 4,000 to 5,000 chicken heads per each flock, Luyen considers disease prevention a vital factor. As participating in the project, her family has been equipped with knowledge, skills and strict disease prevention procedures.

Recently, the chicken price has increased to 82,000-85,000 VND (3.1 to 3.2 USD) per kilo, yielding so high profits that she pays more attention to safe restocking.

Yen The district (of former Bac Giang province) was granted a disease-free zone certificate by the Department of Animal Health (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) in 2022, becoming the first locality in northern and central Vietnam meeting the district-level standards.

To continue this achievement, the competent agencies annually collaborate with local government to organise vaccination for the whole poultry flocks, monitor disease outbreaks and collect samples to assess the post-vaccination effectiveness.

Current Yen The commune was established by merging 5 localities including Phon Xuong town and the communes of Dong Lac, Dong Tam, Tan Hiep and Tan Soi. These communes had been recognized free-disease zones under the project on disease-free zones before the merger.

Therefore, maintaining the disease-free zones has been defined by local authorities as a top priority to ensure sustainable livestock development and promote economic growth.

Seeing high increase in chicken prices, many households are concentrating on restocking their livestock to meet the market demand.

In order to maintain the disease-free zones and create a protective shield for poultry, the sub-department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries (under the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment) advised farmers to strictly comply with the guidance of competent agencies, closely follow up the market developments, determine appropriate restocking and flock expansion scales to ensure optimal production efficiency.
