Hanoi announces traffic restrictions for Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong's funeral
Hanoi has banned large vehicles on key highways during the two-day state funeral for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Thursday and Friday.
The traffic police announced Tuesday that from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday certain national highways will be off-limits to 10-ton trucks and buses with over 40 seats with certain exceptions like those used for the funeral, vehicles with proper identification, on duty and used for passenger transport, sanitation trucks, and emergency response vehicles.

Vehicles traveling between Ha Nam, Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh provinces and Hai Phong City and Hai Duong Province have to take National Highway 5 or the Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway to the Phap Van – Cau Gie Expressway during this period.
Those traveling between Hai Phong, Hai Duong and Hung Yen and Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, and Bac Giang will take the two highways to National Highway 1 via Phu Dong Bridge to the Ninh Hiep intersection and then take the Hanoi – Thai Nguyen Expressway or National Highway 1.
Those going between Bac Ninh, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, and Hai Duong and Thai Nguyen and Vinh Phuc will take National Highway 1 to reach National Highway 18 – Vo Nguyen Giap – Vo Van Kiet – National Highway 2 or the Ninh Hiep intersection and then the Hanoi – Thai Nguyen Expressway.
Vehicles traveling between Vinh Phuc and Phu Tho and Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, and Hoa Binh will go by Dong Quang Brige, Vinh Thinh - National Highway 32 - National Highway 21 - the Vietnam Ethnic Culture Village Road - Hanoi – Hoa Binh Expressway - National Highway 21A - Provincial Road 424 - National Highway 21B - National Highway 1A.
The traffic police have devised diversion plans in case of prolonged and severe congestion.
Trong passed away on July 19 due to old age and severe illness at the age of 80.
