A land of rich potential

Viet Yen is home to many outstanding tangible and intangible cultural heritages of humanity and the country. Currently, the locality has 341 relic sites, of which nearly 100 have been ranked, including two special national, 19 national and 78 provincial relic sites.

The township currently has three venues recognised as tourist attractions of the province, namely Bo Da Pagoda in Tien Son commune; the eco-tourism site in the Bac Giang Agriculture and Forestry University in Bich Dong ward; and the Dr. Than Nhan Trung Temple in Nenh ward. Tho Ha ancient village in Van Ha commune has been named as a community-based tourism destination.

Associated with the relic sites, Viet Yen has 134 traditional festivals. Among them, three are national intangible cultural heritages, including the Bo Da Pagoda Festival, the Tho Ha Festival and the mud ball wrestling festival in Van Ha village.

This district is also home to many ancient villages bearing their own characteristics. In 2009, Quan ho (love duet) folk singing was recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Viet Yen has 18 ancient Quan ho villages, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists.

Creating highlights to attract visitors

Viet Yen strives to attract about 1 million visitors and earn about 100 billion VND (3.93 million USD) in tourism revenue each year by 2030.

It will create jobs for more than 500 workers in the tourism sector, becoming a cultural - historical - spiritual tourism center of the province in accordance with planned tourism spaces such as golf tourism, culinary experience, and sightseeing combined with entertainment.

To realise the above goals, along with providing training for tourism cooperatives in craft villages on how to organise tourism activities and design tours and tourism routes as well as hold promotion events to attract tourists, Viet Yen has focused on building tourism infrastructure; upgrading and promoting the value of local relic sites, cultural and historical heritages.

Since 2020, the locality has invested more than 300 billion VND (11.8 million USD), including social sources, to renovate and build tourism works.

The township has spent hundreds of billions of VND upgrading and expanding village roads and residential areas leading to tourist attractions and relic sites, contributing to luring tourists.

Than Van Thuan, Vice Chairman of the Viet Yen People's Committee, said that the locality identifies spiritual tourism associated with craft village tourism as a hightlight.

He said along with renovating tangible cultural architecture and preserving intangible culture including quan ho, ca tru (ceremonial singing) and cheo (traditional opera) to meet the needs of tourists, Viet Yen also reserves commercial and service land funds in Nenh ward, Bich Dong township to attract investment in building hotels and commercial centers.

In particular, the district focuses on selecting investors to develop high-quality hotels, catering and entertainment facilities to serve domestic and foreign tourists, he added.
